[ Will glad to see the slight difference in Shaw today. The eye contact, the feeling of presence. He's not sure what changed. Maybe just having a real night with Root helped.

Will seems to be doing better too- although with him, it's more physically present. He has more color in his face. And him cradling a tired-out puppy in his arms doesn't hurt. ]

Ah. Right. That's sort of been an...on-going thing in my life. As you know. It seemed to be different here, but I have a much smaller amount of faith in other wardens than I do in you. And they have authority on their own inmates.

And how much faith do you have in Elim Rawne?

I don't know who he is. Other than seeing the post he put up during the bug flood, where he happened to be drunk and rather pathetic.

Do you know anything more about him?

Uh-- kind of. More personally than professionally, which I know is a weird thing for me to say.

I think there's a chance he'll take this seriously.

[ He doesn't comment on 'personally'. Shaw is allowed to have training buddies.
And other buddies. Especially in this place, where they're all so strange. ]

Well, a chance is better than none, I suppose.

Yeah. I kinda snapped at him, but he's a soldier; he takes that kind of thing way better than Bright does. We'll keep talking about it.

[ Will nods, not looking disappointed, but not looking particularly hopeful, either. ]

I appreciate you keeping me informed about it. I...honestly don't know what I'd do, with someone like Avalon. So, I probably shouldn't be too judgmental with however he handles it.

You don't think that doing nothing because we don't know what to do and feel helpless to change things is what got us here?

...I do, but now I know that Avalon doesn't care about dying.

[ He looks up and gives Shaw a mirthless smile. ]

So my solution clearly didn't fix anything, either. In fact, it just caused a bunch of other problems, and now I'm exhausted.

[ It's something the puppies have helped, so it might not be as outwardly obvious as usual. He looks back down, watches the little one he's holding yawn. ]

Which is one of the many reasons why I'm not talking about trying out your solution again.

[A beat.]

Look, a lot's been going on, and if you need a break first because of that, that's fine. But last time, I let taking a proactive stance with Avalon slide off my radar because I thought they'd backed off. Wouldn't doing that again just make you feel more discouraged, defenseless, and unsupported?

...yeah, it would. But it's not my call to make. And I don't know what your plan is anyway. I-

I'm not sure what could even be done, at this point. They've attacked Hakkai, they've attacked John Doe. It's all been...quiet. We can't throw them off board and I don't think they have any emotions to appeal to. So what can be done?

I don't have a solid plan yet. I want to make a plan with you and Rawne, unless you'd rather not be involved. You don't have to.

I'm still planning to stay on Rawne's ass to make sure he's staying on Avalon's ass. I'm still planning to offer myself up as, uh-- behavior modification consultant, I guess.
