[ Will's brow knots, because yeah, this is where he was lost before. ]
Why do you think he's not making an effort? Why do you think he's made it clear that he's not making an effort? Because there are parts of his personality he can't change? Because he's telling you as much?
He can't change how he thinks and feels. But anybody can change how they act, Graham, especially if they're being given step-by-step instructions on how to do that.
Yeah, it's called 'masking.' He did it for ten years at the FBI, and it probably contributed to his current state of emotional dysfunction.
You could do that, too, I bet. Be kind and pleasant and not give him panic attacks every time you talk. But you don't. Is that you not making an effort?
I think you were trying. I think you were both trying, very very hard.
[ He gestures outward as he speaks, shaking his head. ]
And you kept missing each other, just by a hair. He was trying to be completely earnest with you and getting called uncooperative and lectured for his troubles- you were trying to communicate your discomfort and getting met with what you perceived was a brick wall.
[ He frowns, then looks upward at the ceiling, letting out a sigh. ]
You both got close to starting to figure each other out, but then you got too frustrated and quit. And you insulted him on the way out.
Will chuckles lightly, but his expression betrays a bit of concern. "No, no. I'm trying to find ways for you to enjoy your new state. I know it's tough for you to relax with it. And I was wondering what it'd be like if we both curl up together like that. It just sounded pleasant."
He kisses what he can reach right now, which is an ear. "I will find any way I can for us both to relax. I like this place, but it doesn't offer a lot of quiet moments." Other than the fact that it's brought them together, and he sleeps better here with Malcolm than he has in years. He wants more.
“I could try it.” He squirms a little to look at Will again while trying not to dislodge his embrace. “I could try it tonight. But. If I have lupine night terrors and bite you and then remember what that tastes like, like the moose, it’s daytime wolfing only. Deal?”
"Of course. Deal," Will responds immediately. He hadn't expected Malcolm to agree to this tonight. But they weren't the type to wait on things once they were decided. "We'll just give it a shot. Trying can't hurt anything here."
“The fact that you have instant healing makes it easier to try it,” Malcolm admits. He pushes himself up enough to give Will a kiss. “And I trust you.”
He looks almost impressed to hear they scared Eiffel. "I don't imagine either of you pulls any punches...especially if you both have Gaius heal you up at the end. I'm almost sorry I missed it."
You shouldn't have. But if you were really at your limit, then...that's how it is. I know it can be difficult for either of you to disengage. [ He sighs. ] I don't know, maybe you both would benefit from some time just not forcing anything for awhile.
Will hums, pleased, as Malcolm kisses him. "Yep. That's at least a couple of good things going for us here."
He does hope that Malcolm doesn't have to know what he tastes like- even if Will is rather inured to the idea. Malcolm didn't need nightmares like that. But he doesn't think it'll happen, anyway. There's some violence in Malcolm's night terrors, yes, but they've been pretty manageable so far. And maybe he'll dream of being a wolf in them.
Will's smile takes on a satisfied smirk. "I'm looking forward to having a chance of keeping up with you in the fields. Even if they're Enclosure fields. I want to learn about all of this with you."
“When do you think it’ll happen?” Malcolm asks. “Do you think I have to be a wolf for a minimum amount of time before I can turn someone? I mean. With… some sort of supervision, obviously. They probably don’t let you just do it alone on your first go,” he muses.
"I don't know if there's that many rules or not, honestly," Will admits. "Although maybe? I'm going to ask Iris a few things, so I'll add that to the pile. But ideally- it can happen after that, anytime."
Yeah, Will doesn't like waiting on things. "Oh, it could depend on the port, too. That should be happening soon, right?"
"Oh, it mostly depends where it's at," Will replies. "Very occasionally they can be dangerous. I don't want to still be getting my four legs under me if that happens. Although, if it's a better port, it might be nice to have more space..."
"More like I want to make sure Iris is okay with me being turned in the first place, but yes. That's probably the responsible way to do it, waiting for the port." And he is at least trying to show Shaw that he's being responsible.
"Yeah, that was the plan," she says, her lip curling upwards - she's honestly kind of impressed that they scared Eiffel too, though she knows full well that he's a weenie when it comes to violence. "I'd say we'll do it again sometime, but, uh-- it probably shouldn't be in public."
It's really easy for me to disengage with social things, Graham. You said a couple months ago that you were surprised I was still putting up with him - it wasn't because I was taking the easy road.
[She sighs too, breaking eye contact again to focus on Bear as he finally comes padding over to them, sniffing Shaw before moving over to Will and the other dogs.]
But like I said, I'm done, unless he decides he's going to make a change in how he talks to me. And he's made it pretty clear that that's not gonna happen.
[ Will's eyes narrow briefly as Shaw talks about 'disengagement', but she continues on to reiterate her statement. He's actually not sure if she means it as judgmental as it sounds coming out, or if he's reading into it because he's too close. But it doesn't matter.
He looks at the floor, face blank other than his usual level of mild exhaustion showing through. ]
